Sugar Sonic has teamed up with up and coming Toronto rap legend Loonie Bones for the track Inner City Attitude. The remix called “Steppin to the 70’s” is due to be released mid-summer on Loonie’s latest album “Rhymestein”.
In-depth:
It not only brings together 2 genres of music, it also bridges 2 generations and how they perceive recording their music. “We grew up listening to vinyl.” says Randy, of Sugar Sonic, “…everything was live off the floor, reel to reel, warm distortion and little if any sampling.” (see the documentary Sound City). For Loonie Bones and producer Steve Jackson, there have always been digital sources for music from the latest digital technologies. This fusion becomes more interesting because, on one hand you have the analogue generation learning how to work in the digital world, on the other you have the digital generation learning about how to capture the analogue sound. Loonie does a great job of capturing the inner city vibe. Look for his full-length album to be released in fall 2014 Find Loonie Bones.
